Ottoman Bed Bases for Upholsterers and Small Bed Makers

An upholsterer or small bed maker isn’t buying a finished product to resell — they’re buying a structural base to build on. That changes which parts of the specification matter most.

What you receive: the frame, the mechanism and the slats

Every order includes a welded steel frame, the lifting mechanism assembled, two gas springs rated to the size, sprung birch plywood slats with holders, and fixings with fitting instructions. The frame and mechanism arrive assembled; slats, fixings and instructions travel boxed separately on the same pallet. This is the same specification whether the frame is going straight to a retailer’s shelf or into a workshop for finishing — the base doesn’t change depending on what happens to it next.

What you add: fabric, headboard and finish

Everything beyond the structural base — fabric, headboard, any additional finish — is your side of the job. We supply a bare, finished-to-specification steel frame in black structured powder coat; what gets built onto or around it for the end customer is entirely down to the maker. One boundary worth being explicit about: we supply the frame, not a finished, tested piece of upholstered furniture, so compliance with fire regulations for the finished, upholstered product is the responsibility of whoever completes and sells it, not the frame manufacturer.

Frames without mechanisms, if you fit your own

This suits a maker who wants the welded steel frame to a given size without paying for a mechanism they won’t use.

Working to the frame’s external dimensions, not the mattress size

Every dimension we quote is the frame’s external size, not the clearance under the mattress — the frame is deliberately built larger than the nominal mattress size so the mattress sits inside it correctly. If you’re building to a specific finished-bed dimension, work from the external frame size on the product page for that size, not from the mattress name alone.

Ordering by the pallet when you build to order

Even when the end product is made to order for an individual customer, the frame itself is still bought by the pallet — 30 frames of one size, with mixed sizes possible across pallets by arrangement. This works for a maker building a small run of a single size, or one who wants a spread of sizes on hand for different jobs. Send your sizes and quantities and it comes back as one quotation, the same as any other order.
