Taking Delivery of a Pallet of Bed Bases: Forklift, Loading Dock and Booking-In
This is the part of a wholesale order that catches out first-time buyers — not the price, but the physical reality of an 800–1,000 kg pallet arriving at your address.
On this page
The specification of the frame is only half the delivery question. The other half is what it takes to get an 800–1,000 kg pallet off the vehicle and onto your premises — and it’s worth planning for before the pallet is on its way, not when it’s outside your door.
What arrives: pallet dimensions, weight and how it’s wrapped
A pallet measures 210 × 120 × 150 cm and weighs 800–1,000 kg loaded, holding 30 frames of a single size. It’s single-use — not part of a pallet exchange scheme — and shrink-wrapped for transit. The frame and lifting mechanism arrive assembled; slats, fixings and fitting instructions travel in a separate box on the same pallet.
Why tail-lift delivery isn’t an option at 800–1,000 kg
A tail-lift is rated for a fraction of this weight, and kerbside drop-off simply isn’t possible at this scale — there’s no version of this delivery that avoids the need for proper unloading equipment. This is the single most common point of friction on a first order, and it’s entirely avoidable by confirming your unloading method before the pallet leaves the factory rather than finding out on delivery day.
Forklift, loading dock, or neither — your three realistic answers
Before we dispatch, we ask how you’ll unload: forklift, loading dock, or neither. If you have access to either, that’s straightforward. If you have neither, say so in your enquiry rather than after a failed delivery attempt — it’s a conversation worth having at the quotation stage, whether that means arranging plant hire for the day or coordinating a delivery slot with a nearby site that can help.
Booking-in, waiting time and what a failed unload costs
Delivery booking-in — arranging a slot with your goods-in team — is included in the standard freight price, along with Polish export clearance and UK import clearance. What isn’t included: waiting time beyond the free period if the vehicle is held up on-site, and the cost of a redelivery if the unload fails on the day. Both are avoidable with the same fix — confirm in writing, before dispatch, exactly how the pallet will be unloaded and who’ll be on-site to receive it. Full freight and Incoterms detail is on our delivery and terms page.
Postcodes and areas we quote separately
Standard delivery pricing covers England and Wales mainland. Scotland, Northern Ireland, the islands and central London’s congestion and emission zones fall outside standard pricing and are quoted separately — mention your postcode when you send an enquiry and we’ll confirm the figure alongside your frame pricing. None of this affects the frame specification or lead time, only the freight side of the quotation.
Before you order
Can delivery be made with a tail-lift vehicle?
No. A pallet weighs 800–1,000 kg, which is beyond what a tail-lift can handle safely. A forklift or loading dock is required at the delivery address.
What happens if my site can't unload the pallet on the day?
A failed unload results in a redelivery charge, which sits outside the standard freight price. Confirming your unloading method in writing before dispatch avoids this.
Does the delivery price cover the whole of the UK?
Standard pricing covers England and Wales mainland. Scotland, Northern Ireland, the islands and central London congestion and emission zones are quoted separately — mention your postcode in your enquiry and we'll confirm.
