Made-to-Order Frame Sizes: 1800-2200 mm Lengths and Non-Standard Widths

Not every order fits the standard six sizes. Here's what's available beyond them, and how Emperor's own sizing quirk is handled.

The six sizes on this site cover the standard UK range, built to the dimensions set out in our UK bed sizes guide. Beyond that standard range, frames can be modified — and one size in the range, Emperor, doesn’t have a single standard to build to in the first place.

Where the standard range stops

Single through to Emperor covers the sizes a UK retailer or upholsterer will ask for most often, each built to the external frame dimensions set out on its own product page. Outside that range — a non-standard length, a modified width, or a mattress size that doesn’t map onto a standard UK name — the frame becomes a made-to-order specification rather than a stock item, quoted and lead-timed individually.

Alternative lengths: 1800, 1900, 2100 and 2200 mm

Every size in the range can be built to an alternative length — 1800, 1900, 2100 or 2200 mm — as a modification from the standard length, at a surcharge. This covers the more common reasons a standard length doesn’t fit: a taller mattress specification, a non-standard bed surround, or a contract job built to a specific room dimension. Tell us the finished mattress size you’re building for and we’ll confirm the frame dimensions and the surcharge that applies.

Emperor: three different mattresses sold under one name

Emperor isn’t a standardised size in the UK the way Double or King are. We build our Emperor frame to 1990 × 2005 mm, but mattresses sold as “Emperor” or “Super Emperor” turn up at 200 × 200, 202 × 200 and 215 × 215 cm — three different products under overlapping names. If you’re ordering Emperor, confirm your customer’s actual mattress dimensions before the order is placed, rather than assuming “Emperor” means one fixed size. See the Emperor product page for the full specification and this note in context.

Modified widths and why we ask for the mattress, not the size name

The same logic that applies to Emperor applies more generally: a size name is a useful shorthand, but the frame is built to a millimetre dimension, and it’s the dimension that matters. For a modified width or any size that falls outside the standard range, we’ll ask for the finished mattress dimensions rather than working backwards from a size name — it removes the ambiguity that a name like “Emperor” or a continental size label can introduce. Remember that all dimensions quoted, standard or modified, are the frame’s external size, not the clearance under the mattress.

How a made-to-order size is priced and lead-timed

A made-to-order size — whether that’s an alternative length, a modified width, or a confirmed non-standard mattress dimension — is priced individually rather than taken from the standard list, since it falls outside the fixed specification the standard prices are built around. The production timeline stays broadly the same as a standard order: send the finished dimensions with your enquiry and it comes back as one quotation, with lead time confirmed alongside price.
